Camp Rumball, “Sports Field of Dreams”
District A12 has been a close friend of Camp Rumball. And this years District Governor’s project goal is to fund the completion of the camp’s Sports Field of Dreams. Funds raised will go towards outfitting a regulation ball field, with such items as a backstop, fencing and bleachers. The site will have A12 signage and will be a community ball field as well as permanent usage by the campers.
The Bob Rumball Camp of the Deaf is located in Parry Sound and was founded in 1960 as a result of Reverend Rumball’s desire to create a place where a Deaf child could enjoy a summer camp experience, develop their leadership and outdoor skills, and take a vacation from feeling ‘different’ or ‘special’. Here, staff and volunteers are trained in American Sign Language so there are no communication barriers.
With the support of service clubs and individuals they are able to subsidize up to 85% campers, which is crucial as so many of our campers come from disadvantaged backgrounds with families that would otherwise be unable to afford registration fees.
