Governor’s Welcome Message
It’s always a Great Day to be a Lion!
However, on the heels of our return from the International Convention in Milan, it feels so special to be a Canadian Lion!
Our out-going International President Lion Gudrun Yngvadottir was truly an inspirational leader – challenging us to “Look Beyond the Horizon” for new ways to Serve our Communities. Our new International President Dr. Jung-Yul Choi now asks us to “Serve with Diversity” and “Lead by Example”. As Lions, you are already Leaders in your Community by virtue of the un-conditional Service you provide.
Our Clubs are changing for the better as we include new members from all ethnic backgrounds. Each year our District approaches gender parity as we increase the percentage of women (currently approx. 36%) in our Clubs. The New Voices Initiative promotes Gender Parity and Diversity and seeks to increase the number of women, young adults, and under-represented populations within our Association.
In Milan, we celebrated the end of Past International Director Lion Tom Gordon’s (and wife Gillian) term, and welcomed our new International Director, Lion Allan Hunt from British Columbia. Perhaps the most exciting part of the International Convention was to partake in the support, endorsement, and jubilation (when the announcement was made) for Dr. Patti Hill as 3rdInt’l Vice President of our organization. Lion Patti will be come the 2ndwoman International President in 2022 and the next CANADIAN International President – since Judge Brian Stevenson in 1987!
As a Canadian, its hard NOT to be excited about our Future! Furthermore, 2020 will be the 100thAnniversary of Lionism in Canada – when the Border City Lions Club made our organization International in 1920. We will be embarking on a new Canadian Centennial Service challenge at the Club level. We also have a goal in Canada to plant 100,000 trees in our Centennial year, so please consider this as you plan your projects for your Club.
I look forward to visiting with as many Lions as possible throughout the Lions year, to celebrate the amazing work you do annually in your communities. Please remember that myself and the District Governor’s TEAM of Officers and Cabinet Chairs are here to SERVE you! If your Club requires assistance with Membership or effective Service projects, please reach out as you see fit. We are here to support you!
Kind regards & yours in Lionism,
